Why I’m Building the Engine Before the Tools
When people think about building SaaS products, the focus is usually on features — what the tool does, how fast it ships, and what’s coming next.
But over time, I’ve learned that the long-term success of any SaaS platform depends far more on the foundations underneath it than the features on top.
That’s why, behind the scenes at SaasYeti, I’m building a shared core system first — YetiEngine. It handles the unglamorous but essential parts of the platform: users, permissions, installs, versioning, exports, and limits. Getting these right early keeps individual tools simpler, more reliable, and easier to maintain over time.
It’s a slower approach upfront, but it avoids technical debt, rewrites, and feature bloat later. Tools like YetiMail are designed to sit on top of this foundation once it’s solid, rather than being stitched together and retrofitted after the fact.
I’ve put together a short page explaining how SaasYeti is being built, the trade-offs I’m making, and why the engine comes first.
