Building the foundations for SaaSYeti PROD-1
I reached a turning point when I began standardising how SaaSYeti applications are installed and managed on my Netcup server, rather than treating every SaaS as a separate one-off build.
One lesson from building a growing collection of software is that creating an application is only half the job. Keeping it running, updating it safely and knowing which version is live are just as important.
In September I concentrated on PROD-1: a dedicated environment with the YetiCore application foundation, a central app registry, isolated releases and a Control Centre for installation and maintenance. Testing the infrastructure gave me more confidence that new products could follow the same dependable process.
The goal was not to move every existing system. For example, YetiMail continues to live on its dedicated server. The important change was giving new SaaS products a consistent home while allowing established services to integrate securely.
What I learned: repeatable deployment and rollback are worth building before a catalogue of applications gets any larger.
